Tribes are supporting Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kansas), a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, as he seeks re-election.

Tribes have donated $29,700 to Moran since January, The Wichita Eagle reported. Contributions came mainly from those outside of Kansas, including the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians in California and the Seneca Nation of New York.

In the 113th Congress, Moran introduced S.1507, the Tribal General Welfare Exclusion Act, to ensure certain payments from tribes to their members aren't taxed by the federal government. The bill became law in September 2014.

In the 114th Congress, Moran is pushing S.248, the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act, to exempt tribes from the National Labor Relations Act. The bill has advanced quickly this year with support from Republicans on Capitol Hill.
