Hillary Clinton is denouncing Donald Trump's call to stop all Muslims from entering the United States as "reprehensible, prejudiced and divisive."

"You don't get it. This makes us less safe," Clinton, the Democratic front-runner tweeted on Monday.

This is reprehensible, prejudiced and divisive. @RealDonaldTrump, you don't get it. This makes us less safe. -H https://t.co/SjAqL0clHd

Earlier in the day Trump said the U.S. should enforce a “total and complete shutdown” of Muslims coming into the United States until leaders “figure out what is going on,” citing the terror threat from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

"Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life," said Trump in a statement.

His remarks come days after a mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif. The alleged shooters were both Muslim and the federal government is investigating the shooting as a terrorist attack. Reports claimed one of the suspects pledged allegiance to ISIS during the shooting. The California shooting also comes on the heels of the Paris attacks, for which ISIS claimed responsibility.

Clinton wasn't alone Monday, with the entire GOP field and other Democrats also blasting Trump's statement.

“Demagogues throughout our history have attempted to divide us based on race, gender, sexual orientation or country of origin," said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a Democratic 2016 contender, in a statement.

"Now, Trump and others want us to hate all Muslims. The United States is a great nation when we stand together. We are a weak nation when we allow racism and xenophobia to divide us.”

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley tweeted that Trump “is running for President as a fascist demagogue.”
